Detectives William Somerset (Morgan Freeman) and David Mills (Brad Pitt) investigate a series of gruesome murders. The killer, John Doe (Kevin Spacey), is inspired by the seven deadly sins and stages each crime scene as a macabre symbol of one of them. The experienced Detective Somerset is about to retire, while the impulsive Mills has recently moved to the city with his wife, Tracy (Gwyneth Paltrow). Together, they follow the killer’s trail, which gradually draws the detectives deeper into his sinister plan.
